Baseball cards & sneakers

So I've been tossing around a few ideas in my head for an upcoming post.  While at a sneaker shop earlier today, it hit me like a ton of bricks.  For those of you who used to collect sports cards in the 90s, remember when it got to the point that there were SO many inserts, special sets, glossy series, etc.?   The focus became spending lots of money on getting the most expensive pack; there wasn't any substance left.  

I think the sneaker industry is headed in the same direction.  Limited edition this.  Exclusive pack that.  Special collaboration here.  Rare colorway there.  

I need a few more weeks to gather my thoughts to put this whole phenomenon into a cohesive piece of writing...
